Those who call Bird Key home are fortunate to live in one of Sarasota County’s most desirable neighborhoods. Situated between St. Armands Circle/Lido Beach and downtown Sarasota, Bird Key is convenient to everything that Sarasota has to offer.

Bird Key is an island with a combination of garden homes, canal-front homes and impressive bayfront homes. A boater’s dream with deepwater canals in addition to sparkling bay views, most waterfront residences on Bird Key have their own boat dockage with easy access to Sarasota Bay. The neighborhood is complete with the Bird Key Yacht Club, which provides for an active lifestyle with tennis, swimming and elegant dining.

Market Activity – Bird Key

Developed in the 1950s by Arvida Corporation, there are approximately 500 homes on the island. Due to the popularity of the neighborhood, many have been beautifully renovated or rebuilt as recently as 2010. There are currently 42 homes listed for sale, which are priced from $499,000 with just over 2,000 square feet and up to $9.5 million for a home built in 2006 with over 7,800 square feet. There have been 27 sales on Bird Key in 2010 ranging in price from $470,000 to $4.2 million. Michael Saunders & Company had 52% of the listings that sold on Bird Key this year. That includes the highest priced sale of $4.2 million, which was listed by Audrey and Jill Singer of Michael Saunders & Company’s South Longboat Key office. Audrey and Jill are well known on Bird Key since they live and work there.

There are currently eight listings that are under contract on Bird Key. Those range in price from $549,000 to $4.8 million. Deborah Beacham, also with Michael Saunders & Company’s South Longboat Key office, placed the property she had listed for $4.8 million under contract within 12 days! The buyer was brought by Kathleen Callender of the company’s St. Armands office. The beautiful home is on the open bayfront with views of downtown Sarasota and Harbor Acres. It has 6,700+ square feet and was built in 2007 with spectacular bay views, exceptional craftsmanship, exquisite materials;  it was priced to sell at $4,800,000. The seller was realistic about the market, and the buyer recognized quality and value, which made for a perfect match.  Annette Rogers and Michael Moulton, also of the South Longboat Key office, have had success on Bird Key over the years.
