In just two years The MSC Foundation has helped to support over 45 nonprofit organizations. To be considered for a Foundation grant, a nonprofit organization must fit within the Foundation’s mission and also be nominated by a contributing Michael Saunders & Company agent or staff member.

Here, we are shining the spotlight on two excellent organizations and the two Michael Saunders & Company Realtors who nominated their cause.

Family Partnership Center (FPC)

This non-profit in Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto County provides parents the skills for strengthening families, protecting children, and helping to lead them to self- sufficiency. FPC offers in-home parenting services, community-based groups, classes and workshops.

Realtor C. Susan Hilton is on the Board at FPC where she volunteers to help with marketing and fundraising.  She initially became involved after learning about their cause though the Sarasota Business Exchange Club. “I felt it was a really heartwarming organization.” she explained. “All of us would like to be better parents and there are those who need some extra help.”

She expressed that it was very meaningful to have the Foundation’s help and her experience with FPC has affected her positively,   “It gives me a feeling of “gratitude” to my own parents for providing me with love and support and a happy home life. All children should grow up with that. It would make such a difference in the world today and in future generations.”

Visit the Family Partnership Center website for more information about their parenting education program.

Joining our Youth (JOY)

JOY supports youth who are aging out of the foster care system – which happens when they turn 18. Many have no homes, no family, and no clear direction. In our communities, 30 – 35 young people age out each year. At a time when children are expected to step into independence, many fall through the cracks without meaningful support.

Realtor Terri Derr  nominated their cause for a Foundation grant. “JOY makes it possible for these young people to get started in life.”  MSC agent, Laura Hansen, introduced Terri to JOY’s mission who then jumped at the opportunity to contribute to their cause.

Terri went into further detail,“When these once foster kids are able to move into their own place, JOY provides starter kits with pots, pans, towels, detergents, even bicycles. Each kid also has a mentor to help them embark out of foster care.”

Teri was thrilled with the Foundation’s contribution at the mid-year grant giveaway. “For these kids, it’s a year that can make or break them…. Every contribution counts.”
