Summer Fun! – Top Sarasota Area Activities Before School Starts

Spend your summer evenings in Sarasota's beautiful, exciting downtown.

With the fireworks of Fourth of July already exploded for our patriotic enjoyment and the month of August off to a start, one can safely say the summer is nearing its sultry end. Luckily, the Sarasota area offers an abundance of things to see, do and experience before the school bell rings and beckons students back to the halls of knowledge.

From merriment to exercise and much more in between, here are our top Sarasota area activities to pursue before the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year:

Live Music - Come every Wednesday night of the summer to experience The Summer Music Series at Mr. Beery’s. Running from July 13 – August 17, you have the opportunity to enjoy three local music groups for just a $3 donation at the door. Live Show – Playing from July 6 – August 14 at the Gompertz Theatre, 1241 N Palm Ave, Sarasota, FL 34236, Our Son’s Wedding is the story of an Italian-American plumber and his wife who, go to their son’s wedding… with a twist. August 5, 2011: Live from Downtown Sarasota It’s Friday Night! Live entertainment on these streets: Main, Palm, First Lemon and in Selby Park from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Includes performance by Sarasota Ballet on Lemon Street.

August 12, 2011: The annual summer music fest, Friday Fest at the Van Wezel features the country music of “One Night Rodeo.” Bring your lawn chair or blanket. Food and drink vendors are available, so don’t bring outside food and drink. This free concert series takes place rain or shine, as it moves indoors in case of inclement weather. This event starts at 5 p.m.

August 18 – 19, 2011: PAL Sailor Circus is hosting the American Youth Circus Festival with FREE shows for the public to attend! FREE Showcase Performances open to the public at 7 p.m. 2075 Bahia Vista Street, Sarasota. Come out and fill the arena both nights!
