Star Spangled Sarasota: Top 10 Area Events this Fourth of July

Fourth of July, Sarasota, Siesta KeyIndependence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It’s a day of picnics and parades, barbecues and baseball – all topped off with an evening of concerts and fireworks. To commemorate this 237th birthday of our great country, the Sarasota area is brimming with a number of exciting events sure to make this July 4th a fun and memorable day for everyone.

With such a significant celebration just a week away, here are the top 10 Sarasota-area events for this Fourth of July:

Garden Party – Enjoy the Fourth of July at the beautiful Selby Gardens Tropical 4th of July Celebration. Tickets are $17 for Gardens’ members, $20 for non-members and children 11 and under are admitted free. Tickets are available online and will also be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gardens’ Welcome Center entrance. Festivities start at 6:00 p.m, and will include live music, an all-American cookout, and nighttime fireworks.

Grand Display at Lemon BayA Fourth of July extravaganza takes place on Englewood’s Dearborn Street on July 4th. Created by Lemon Bay Sunrise Rotary, the 2013 Cajun Fest offers food, beverages and a host of family activities. The fun begins at 10 a.m. and continues into the evening with a magnificent fireworks display over Lemon Bay.

This Sounds Spectacular – Part of the Suncoast Offshore Festival taking place June 29th-July 7th, marvel at the cascading display of lights and sounds at the Bayfront Fireworks Spectacular, taking place at Sarasota Bayfront Park at 9:00 pm on July 4th.

A Fiesta on Siesta Key – Come enjoy a thrilling fireworks show on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. The 2013 Siesta Key Community Fireworks Celebration VIP party begins at 5 pm. The $150 package includes reserved onsite parking, gourmet picnic dinner, beverages, live entertainment, and ideal viewing area of the display. Fireworks begin at 9:15 pm. Venice Bound – Plan on being further south this Fourth of July? The Sertoma Club of Venice is sponsoring this year’s fireworks show at the South Jetty, which begins at sunset on the 4th. Arrive early as Jetty parking will be closed, but the fireworks may be seen from all along the beach and surrounding waterways.

Riverfront View – Staying further north? Enjoy the Fourth of July Festivities and Fireworks in Palmetto along the Manatee River near the Green Bridge. This annual event begins at 4pm. There will be entertainment, music, food, activities for children and spectacular fireworks.

Baseball in Bradenton – Enjoy a fun-filled, all American evening at the Marauder’s Baseball game on Tuesday July 2nd. The game starts at 6:30 p.m., and will be followed by live music and fireworks  at McKechnie Field in Bradenton. Click HERE for ticket information.

Island Celebration– The Privateers 4th of July Parade is an annual patriotic-themed parade hosted by the Anna Maria Privateers. It starts at 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, and takes place on July 4th. The seven-mile parade begins at Coquina Beach and will end at Bay Front Park in Sarasota.

Grand Prix Party – Fourth of July weekend in Sarasota means offshore racing! Be part of the annual festivities and one of the longest running powerboat races in history. This year’s events kick off on June 29th, with the Grand Prix race being held on Sunday, July 7th. Visit HERE for more information.

Red, White and Useppa! – Try something new this year and consider renting a room or house on Useppa Island. The private Useppa Island Club will be hosting special activities on July 4th weekend, with a fishing tournament and cookout taking place on July 6th.  For more information, contact the Useppa Island Club at 239.283.1061.
