Anyone who has been driving along Tamiami Trail and Waldemere will have noticed an impressive addition to the Sarasota scenery.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital is holding a grand opening for their new $186 million Courtyard Tower on Saturday, September 7. This much-anticipated center will greatly enhance their facilities and add to the unparalleled level of care SMH already provides in the region.

SMH is recognized as one of Florida’s top 10 hospitals. It is also the only local hospital to have earned the distinction of the U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 Best Hospitals list. In the 2013 study, SMH was ranked #48 for excellence in gynecological care and in the top quartile nationally for achieving high performing status in Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Orthopedics, and Pulmonology.

The new nine-story patient tower will replace the oldest wings of the hospital and increase the hospital’s stock of private rooms by 20 percent while providing state-of-the-art equipment, technology, and patient amenities.  Its innovative features will ensure improved patient care with a focus on comfort, safety, and creating an ideal, healing environment for patients, physicians, and staff.

The opening will be held on Saturday from 9am to 2pm with a short program at 10:30 featuring the Sarasota Military Academy color guard and a time capsule ceremony. Tours of floors 4 through 9 will be continuous throughout the ceremony.
