PAL Sailor Circus offers family friendly entertainment during the holidays.

To complement the festive spirit of the holidays, many of us find ourselves with a little extra time away from the office to spend with family and friends. Luckily, the Sarasota area plays host to a number of different shows and events, which can provide a chance for all to experience the season in a unique way.

From acrobats to the arts, these top Sarasota area holiday happenings are sure to entertain while filling you with holiday spirit:

Van Wezel – A Christmas Carol – Produced by the famed Nebraska Theatre Caravan & authored by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is a timeless holiday classic featuring a spirited ensemble of performers, elaborate costumes and a magical set that feels like a Christmas card come-to-life. Dickens At The Crosley – Unable to catch the Van Wezel showing? Charles and Catherine Dickens welcome you to the Crosley Estate for holiday merrymaking with characters-come-to-life. PAL Sailor Circus – Named the “Greatest ‘Little’ Show on Earth,” the PAL Sailor Circus offers family friendly entertainment for adults and children of all ages. A must-see for all while in Sarasota, this four-ring circus features over 100 performers—all of which are students. Be amazed of the ability of these young performers of the country’s oldest youth circus. Show runs from Monday, December 27 through Thursday, December 30. Click HERE for more info.

Reindeer Games – Looking for some fresh air and a bit of competition this holiday season? Come join Bobby Jones golf course on December 25 for the annual “Reindeer Games.” The shotgun starts at 9 a.m. and costs $26.50 for 18 holes and a cart. There will be a hot breakfast special in Mulligan’s for $9 to the public with $3 off for those participating in the Reindeer Games. Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker – A must-see production, Van Wezel is hosting the Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker on Sunday, December 26 at 1PM. Family Night with Dale Jones – Interested in some post-holiday laughs? Head over to McCurdy’s for Family Night with Dale Jones on Monday, December 27 at 7:00 P.M. Fun and safe for the whole family, Dale’s machine gun style delivery and animated facials with quick improvisations and non-stop physical comedy leaves the audience wishing they had his energy and wanting to give him Ritalin. New Year’s Eve – The Annual Pineapple Drop – Sarasota’s active calendar of events wraps up a year-long run with The Pineapple Drop at Midnight on New Year’s Eve in downtown Sarasota at Lemon and Main streets. There will be daylong events beginning at noon and into the evening with live music, street vendors and more. It’s a fun and safe way to close out the old year and ring in the new one.
