Whether celebrating your Irish heritage or finding another reason to party, we all have a bit o’ the Irish in us on St. Patrick’s Day. Every March 17, millions of people don green and observe the day with parades, good cheer, a hearty feast, and perhaps a pint of beer.

Regardless of your heritage, it is time to hit the town and celebrate the first green of spring. Here are top St. Patrick’s Day festivities to be found in the Sarasota area that can help you celebrate the green day to the fullest:

1.  The Irish Rover Pub – Named the Irish Rover, it comes as no surprise to find an evening of St. Patrick’s Day fun at 6518 Gateway Ave. in Sarasota. Celebrate here from noon until midnight in a large outdoor tent with authentic Irish food and drink. Live music and performances by bagpipers, Paul Duffy and Bobby Vesey, and Irish dancers. $5 cover.

2.  Fishermen’s Village – Not going to be in Sarasota? Located in the Waterfront Mall off Marion Avenue in Punta Gorda, Fishermen’s Village presents the Lee County Pipes & Drums from 5 to 5:30 pm, followed by traditional Irish songs by Paul Cottrell and Friends until 9 p.m. No cover.

3.  The Shamrock Pub – With a name like that, St. Patrick’s Day is a time to shine. The Shamrock Pub’s free second annual St. Patrick’s Day Bash includes traditional bagpipers, green beer, corned beef and cabbage, and plenty of live music.

4.  Ed’s Tavern – Who’s Your Paddy? St. Patty’s Party — The party starts early at this Lakewood Ranch tavern with breakfast featuring green eggs and ham, and $3 corned beef and cabbage. Live music will be provided by The Rum Runners later in the day. 10 am. No cover.

5.  Siesta Key Saint Patty’s Pub Crawl – Enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day near one of the worlds best beaches at Siesta Key Oyster Bar, Gilligan’s Island Bar & Grill, Daiquiri Deck and Beach Club. Enjoy drink specials, live music and giveaways during this popular pub crawl, which starts at 9 p.m. No cover.

6.  The Gator Club – Downtown Sarasota’s block party runs from 9:30 pm to 2 am, bands to provide entertainment indoors until 2 am and outdoors from 7 – 11 pm. $4 cover charge. Located at 190 Main Street, Sarasota.

7.  Sarasota Elks – Enjoy the “Corned Beef Special” consisting of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, shepherd’s pie and corned beef sandwiches at 4 pm. The Crazy Carol Irish Tribute show follows. $15 cover.

8.  The Crow’s Nest – Down in Venice? Join the Crow’s Nest by the South Jetty for the 31st annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Enjoy corned beef and cabbage, Irish lamb stew, green beer and a limerick contest beginning at 9 pm. No cover.

9.  Clancy’s – Located in Bradenton, Clancy’s hosts a variety of entertainment running from 11am to 2 am. The club will also serve Irish food and beer. Best Irish costume wins $50. No Cover.

10.  Get Down Downtown on St. Patrick’s Day: Old Main Street, Bradenton – Get Down Downtown changes from its regular third-Thursday slot this month to celebrate on Wednesday, March 17, instead. The bands begin at 4 pm with the National Anthem, honor guard and presentation of the Irish-American Citizen of the Year at 6 pm. Bands include Big Daddy, Final Cut and the Tommy Devine Duo. Special St. Patrick’s Day fare, live music and more. There will be a kids zone 4-8 p.m.
