Fireworks, Flags and Fun – Top 10 Sarasota-Area Independence Day Events

The Sarasota area offers a number of Independence Day events. Find the right one for you!

Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America. It’s a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks, and a reason to fly the American flag. To commemorate the event, the Sarasota area hosts  a number of exciting events sure to make July 4th weekend special for all ages.

Here are the top 10 Sarasota-area events for this Fourth of July:

1. I’m on a Boat! – It may just be the right time to purchase that boat you always wanted. Why not check out some of the latest makes and models at this year’s 9th Annual St. Armands Boat Show? The event takes place on Sunday, July 4 from 10:00 am – 5:30 pm at St. Armands Circle. Click HERE for more information.

2. Garden Party – Come celebrate the birthday of our country at the beautiful Selby Gardens Tropical 4th of July Celebration. Tickets are $15 for Gardens’ members, $18 for non-members and children 11 and under are admitted free. Tickets are available online beginning June 15 and will also be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gardens’ Welcome Center entrance. Festivities start at 6:00 p.m, and will include a patriotic attire contest, live music by Yesterdaze, an all-American cookout, and nighttime fireworks. Visit HERE for more information.

3. A Festival of Fun – Spend your Fourth of July downtown with music, pony rides, carnival rides, great food, street performers and fireworks with the DSA Flag Fest Sarasota & Fireworks. Admission is free, and the event starts at 4pm. Visit HERE for more information. 

4.  Prix Party – Fourth of July weekend in Sarasota means offshore racing! Be part of the annual festivities and one of the longest running powerboat races in history. A full weekend of events is scheduled from car and motorcycle shows to a family friendly block party. Visit here for more information.

5. This Sounds Spectacular – Cap off a fun weekend of offshore racing with a cascading display of lights and sounds at the Bayfront Fireworks Spectacular, taking place at Sarasota Bayfront Park at 9:00 pm. Go HERE for more information.

6. A Fiesta on Siesta – Come enjoy a thrilling fireworks show on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. The 2010 Siesta Key Community Fireworks Celebration VIP party begins at 5 pm. $75 per person (discounts for kids) includes reserved onsite parking, gourmet picnic dinner, beverages, live entertainment, and ideal viewing area of the display. 7. Venice Bound – Plan on being further south this Fourth of July? The Sertoma Club of Venice is sponsoring this year’s fireworks show at the South Jetty, which begins at sunset on Sunday. 8. Riverfront View – Staying further north? Enjoy the Fourth of July Festivities and Fireworks in Palmetto along the Manatee River near the Green Bridge. This annual event starts at 11:00 am and goes on until 10:30 pm. The fireworks will begin at 9:30 pm. There will be entertainment, music, food, activities for children and spectacular fireworks.

9. Bradenton Fun – Before going to enjoy the fireworks along the Manatee River at 9:30 pm, why not stop and join the 4th of July Block Party that will be held in downtown Bradenton from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm? The party is on Main Street, so all the streets leading to it will be closed to traffic during that time.

10. Island Party – The Privateers 4th of July Parade is an annual patriotic-themed parade hosted by the Anna Maria Privateers. It starts at 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, and takes place on Sunday. The seven-mile parade begins at Coquina Beach and will end at Bay Front Park in Sarasota.
