Deserving Dads: Top Sarasota-Area Father’s Day Events

Father's Day I’ve always thought it a little unfair that Mother’s Day takes the proverbial lion’s share of attention. While moms have been getting used to the royal treatment with wonderful spa days and champagne brunches, dads often settle for a new pair of novelty socks. This Father’s Day falls on Sunday June 16, so show dad how much you appreciate his love, support and guidance by treating him to something a little more thoughtful. Here are a few special ideas in and around Sarasota to help you make dad feel like King for the day:

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse – On Sunday, June 16 from 11:30am to 3:00pm, treat dad to brunch or dinner at Fleming’s in Sarasota, and they’ll treat him to a $25 Dining Card to enjoy on a future occasion. Enjoy the exceptional brunch menu featuring prime rib, Fleming’s signature eggs benedict, and delicious desserts like white chocolate bread pudding. Reservations are recommended and can be made online.

Father’s Day at Mote Aquarium – Expose dad to the mysteries of the deep at Mote Aquarium. On Sunday, June 16 from 10:00am to 5:00pm, fathers receive free admission with a paid child’s ticket.

Fishing Trip on Useppa Island – The quaint island retreat of Useppa has been attracting fishermen for over one hundred years. Some of the best tarpon, snook and redfish angling can be found adjacent to the island, accessible by kayaks available for rent. For more information, visit the Useppa  Island website.

Who’s your Caddy? – Play a round of golf with dad at one of the many excellent golf courses in the area. The StoneyBrook Golf Club in Bradenton features a course designed by prominent architect Arthur Hills – renowned for making his courses playable and enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels. Book a tee time online and treat dad to a day well above par!

Searching for Shark Teeth – Take dad on a trip to historic Venice for the day and look for shark teeth! Visitors and residents alike love searching the beach for the prehistoric gnashers, evidence of the incredible number of sharks that once inhabited the area. Once you’re all toothed out, treat dad to lunch at local favorite Sharky’s on the Pier, famed for their delicious grouper sandwiches and great sunset views.

Optimus Prime – Mattison’s Forty-One offers a special Father’s Day Brunch from 10am to 2pm on June 16, featuring a prime rib carving station, omelette and crepes, stuffed French toast and many more delectable offerings. In addition, the Father’s Day Special from 4-8pm features prime rib hand carved to order, and Dad will receive a complimentary glass of beer or house wine with his entrée.
