23 About Me – Going to Bat for Relocation

23LogoWhat do baseball, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and Batgirl have in common? The obvious answer may have you thinking of America’s favorite pastime (that, or a certain librarian by day, caped crime fighter by night). But, you might also find a commonality in our latest “23 About Me” interviewee – as well as learning about what brought her to Sarasota and her favorite extravagance (hint: keep her away from the Nordstrom Rack opening soon at the Shoppes at University Town Center!).

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Joan Erni, Director of Relocation and Referral Services

Choose one: country estate, city penthouse or beachfront living?
The beach (of course!)

Favorite cuisine?

What book are you reading now OR what is the last book you read?
Chanel Bonfire: A Memoir by Wendy Lawless

How did you first find your way to this area?
I’d never been to the west coast of Florida until my husband accepted a job in Bradenton.  The first time I saw Sarasota was the trip I took to look for a home here; that was five years ago, and I absolutely love it!

Do you have a special talent?
I sing…pretty terribly; but since I love to sing the talent is in my enthusiasm and not letting that stop me 😉

How did you spend your childhood summers?
On various lakes in the Adirondack Mountains, upstate New York; my whole family moved up there for the month of August.

If you could have lunch with someone from history, who would it be?
Shoeless Joe Jackson

If you could vacation anywhere in the world where would it be?
Hawaii. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon.  We’ll be married 35 years next year and I’m hoping for a return trip to celebrate.

Choose one: Boating, golfing, or the arts?
Baseball.   I know it wasn’t one of the choices but watching a baseball game on a sunny afternoon is my version of heaven.  I can’t express strongly enough how happy I am that baseball spring training remained in Sarasota.

What living person do you most admire?
Ok, corny but the honest answer is my husband, Roy.

What is your greatest extravagance?

What do you love about working with Michael Saunders & Company?
The support the company gives to everyone who works here; agents, management and staff.

What restaurant do you go to more than any other?
Café Baci; it’s owned by the Mei family (Denise Mei is an agent in our Main Street office) and not only is the food fabulous, I always feel so welcomed (like family) when we eat there.

What is your favorite Broadway musical?

What is the prettiest place you have been locally?
Sunset on Longboat Key is gorgeous.

What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?
With my family around our pool.

When you have friends visit from out of town, where do you take them?
Oh…lots of places, but every visit always includes lunch at Sharky’s on Venice Beach.

What do you like to cook?

What is your favorite TV show?
Top Chef

Name one thing on your bucket list:
I don’t have one; but one thing I would like before I kick mine is a few grandchildren to spoil!

Batgirl (seriously)

What is your most treasured possession?
My teddy bear

It’s easy to know Joan! She is open to meeting new people and always has a beautiful smile. I share her love for baseball, but the Batgirl and teddy bear – I am sure there will be ways to tease her in the future! 🙂 Great way to get to get to know Joan!

I never knew Joan wanted to be a batgirl….that probably could have been arranged. Here is something that no one knows about her….she was a shy little girl. I am so proud of how she bloomed into the dynamic, kind, fun loving person she is today.
    She lights up our world!
