Vote for Sarasota as the All-America City!

Sarasota County was named as one of 20 finalist communities from across the country for the All-America City Award by the National Civic League. Once described by pollster George Gallup as a “Nobel Prize” for civic accomplishment, the All-America City has set a standard of excellence since 1949.

One of the judging criteria for this recognition is which community can garner the most “likes” of their video. We encourage you to “like” this video on Youtube and help our magnificent Gulf Coast community win this prestigious honor.

Deserving Dads: Top Sarasota-Area Father’s Day Events

Father's Day I’ve always thought it a little unfair that Mother’s Day takes the proverbial lion’s share of attention. While moms have been getting used to the royal treatment with wonderful spa days and champagne brunches, dads often settle for a new pair of novelty socks. This Father’s Day falls on Sunday June 16, so show dad how much you appreciate his love, support and guidance by treating him to something a little more thoughtful. Here are a few special ideas in and around Sarasota to help you make dad feel like King for the day: (more…)

Summer Performance Season Kicks Off!

stage_curtainIf you think the best time to catch a play or attend a concert on the Gulf Coast is during the winter months, then you are in for a sunny surprise! The area’s cultural institutions are creating as much action this summer as the sand on Siesta Key. We wanted to share our list of recommendations from an international music festival to a variety of plays to a cabaret performance this weekend not-to-be-missed! (And since I consider myself to be rather immersed in the local arts scene, I am also providing you with my own insider knowledge on why you should go!) (more…)

Full of Beans: ‘Perq’ Coffee Creates A Buzz In Sarasota

PerqlogoI have to admit, the Marketing Team at Michael Saunders & Company gets through a fair amount of coffee. The beloved Keurig machine sits like a shining beacon of energy, patiently waiting to jolt us to life at 8:30am.

Now being a Brit, I am rather more partial to a fine cup of tea; but when I heard that my favorite sweet treat shop, The Lollicake Queen, had opened a brand new specialty coffee bar, I couldn’t resist the chance to experience the buzz (not only from the caffeine!).

Perq Coffee Bar brings gourmet coffee to Sarasota, and focuses on single origin, distinct brewing methods and sustainability. The delicious coffee (and tea, happily!) is complimented by an array of freshly made pastries and cakes, as well as sandwiches and salads from local favorite Mozzarella Fella. (more…)
