Spreading the Cheer – 2012 Holiday Events

There is something special about the air this time of year, when the sun-drenched tropical warmth—to which we’ve become so accustomed—takes a bit of a break to remind us of the changing of the seasons and the beginning of holiday celebrations. This is when thrilling spectacles of cheer through stringed lights and joyful decorations greet us at our normal places of leisure and business. This is also when we look back at another year of life experiences and forward to a New Year of creating new memories, welcoming new opportunities, and discovering new treasures.

While we aren’t graced with the chilly winter weather of our northern neighbors, Florida’s Gulf Coast certainly has no shortage of events for all ages and interests to help usher in the spirit of the holidays.

8 Holiday Performances Not to be Missed

As one who has spent every holiday since birth in the Sarasota area (wow…in print that is hard for me to believe too), there are a great number of cultural events that I know are not to be missed. Many area stages present spectacular holiday-themed productions to help residents and visitors alike celebrate the season. Below is a list of wonderful options to bring on the holiday spirit and remind us what the season is all about:

  • 1. Plaid TidingsManatee Players is doing an upbeat production of Plaid Tidings. This new show is in the same style as its predecessor, “Forever Plaid,” a revue of the close-harmony “guy groups” that reached the height of their popularity during the 1950s! November 29 – December 23.
