Season of the Arts

With no frosty winds or falling leaves to announce its arrival, it’s hard to tell when autumn arrives in Southwest Florida. Instead, our version is more easily noticed by dry sunny days, deliciously cool nights; and, of course, by curtains going up at a variety of performing arts venues throughout the area.

While there’s no official date when the region kicks-off its annual season of the arts, October 11th would be an excellent choice for this year. On that evening a block party in the courtyard of the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art will formally open this year’s Ringling International Arts Festival. For five days, dozens of performers will take to the stage of the Historic Asolo Theater, as well as across the street to the stages of the FSU Center for the Performing Arts. The festival—an extraordinary collaboration between the museum and New York City’s Baryshnikov Arts Center—was such an immediate success in its debut year that plans to hold it every other year were quickly scrapped in favor of making it an annual event. Marcia Salkin of Michael Saunders & Company represented the seller of an exquisite lakefront home in Osprey.  The residence sold for $1,200,000 on September 8, 2011.  Crown Properties Group respresented the buyer.

Julie Jordan of Michael Saunders & Company represented the buyer of this 4-bedroom Gulf-front condominium in Regent Place.  The unit sold for $2,8000,000 on September 2, 2011.  Coldwell Banker represented the seller.

Susan Keal of Michael Saunders & Company represented the buyer of an enchanting waterfront estate in St. Petersburg.  The residence sold for $1,375,000 on September 9, 2011.  Coldwell Banker represented the seller.

Kevin Hyde of Michael Saunders & Company represented the buyer and seller of a custom built waterfront home in the enclave of Placida Bay Estates.  It sold for $1,150,000 on September 9, 2011.

Diane Otis Stirling of Michael Saunders & Company represented the buyer and seller of a unique cypress home on Longboat Key.  The residence sold for $1,000,000 on September 15, 2011.

Edward Haggerty of Michael Saunders & Compnay represented the seller of an extraordinary Mediterranean-style home in University Park.  It sold for $1,280,000 on September 15, 2011.  Atchley International Realty represented the buyer.

Linda Thompson of Michael Saunders & Company represented the buyer of a stately bayfront residence.  The home sold for $2,300,000 on September 13, 2011.  Prudential Palms represented the seller.

Originally from Jackson, Michigan, Dan has been a resident of the Sarasota area for over 28 years and Osprey for over 11 years.

Dan’s interest in real estate led to Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in real estate. He was later named the director of the Real Estate Program at the University of Michigan, a position he served for 12 years. A proven specialist, Dan brings a long, storied career in commercial real estate—having entered the industry in 1960.

A Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) since 1976, Dan’s experience led him to be a CCIM instructor for 30 years, serve as CCIM’s national president in 1997, and receive honors as its Instructor of the Year in 1998. He has also served as the assistant executive officer for the Michigan Association of Realtors for six years. In 1996, Dan earned recognition as the Sarasota CID Realtor of the Year, and was the Sarasota Association Realtor of the Year in 2003.
