Since then, she has earned the Graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI) Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) and Residential Network Specialist (RNS) designations to enhance the service she provides her clients.

After 28 years of owning and operating a residential building company, where he built over 250 homes in Northern Wisconsin, Bob transitioned his experience to the real estate industry in 2002. Siesta Key’s No. 1 Beach Ranking Draws Travelers on Weekend Getaways

There’s something exhilarating about arriving at Florida’s West Coast. After driving across the spartan interior, it flings a traveler into an inverted image of the East Coast: all the aspects of Florida living and the tropical aesthetic are here, but less of other things we find annoying. And everything is in some different context, culminating with sunset over a pristine beach on the Gulf.

That’s enough of a getaway for a holiday weekend such as Memorial Day, the first weekend after the Miami-based purveyor of U.S. shores, “Dr. Beach,” ceremoniously traveled to Siesta Key to announce that its beach finally garnered his highest honors.

Avoiding Whiplash

Last week, Wall Street answered the rancorous debate over the debt ceiling with four consecutive days of wild swings involving more than 400 points per day. They dubbed it Whiplash Week.   In one of the most volatile weeks in the market’s history, unnerved investors were suddenly scrambling to find safer havens to park their money.

Meanwhile the volatility that unsettled real estate markets over the past few years has largely subsided, leaving housing prices at their lowest level since the turn of the century.  In a clear case of over-correction, seasoned market watchers are now calling many areas that bubbled-up the most during the boom—like Southwest Florida—undervalued.

Real estate is rarely a practical way to earn a short-term profit, as many underleveraged property flippers discovered the hard way once the boom went belly-up.  Still, as a means to enjoy steady long-term appreciation, it remains one of the most reliable.

Each month, real estate authority Steve Harney updates a graph comparing returns on investment for real estate versus the Dow, S&P and the NASDAQ.  Recent volatility in all these markets notwithstanding, had you invested $100 in each in early 2001, by now you would have netted $140 in real estate, versus $110 on the Dow, $92 on the S&P and $70 on NASDAQ.
