Gone Fishing

Boca Grande - “Tarpon Capital of the World.”

Boca Grande - “Tarpon Capital of the World.”

If Southwest Florida is the “paradise” we all love to brag about to our northern friends, then the Village of Boca Grande—on Gasparilla Island—is hands-down one of its most magical settings.   The enchantment one feels upon arriving there is immediate.  No sooner do you cross the bridge linking the mainland to the northern tip of the island than you realize you’ve discovered a place like few others in the Sunshine State.  Which is why this authentic slice of old Florida has long been a coveted refuge for celebrities, sportsmen, U.S. presidents; and such legendary business tycoons as Henry Ford, J.P. Morgan, Henry DuPont and Harvey Firestone.  Their privacy is respected in a place revered as much for its blue water and white beaches as for its world class fishing and boating.  Last March, in fact, Barron’s and The Wall Street Journal jointly named Gasparilla Island one of the “10 Best Places to Own Second Homes;” placing it in such illustrious company as The Hamptons, Palm Beach, Aspen, Pebble Beach and Maui.

Home Base – Top Reasons to Own Your Own Home

Enjoy the freedom to decorate as you wish when you own your own home.

After listening to the advice of friends, families, coworkers or news outlets, many new homeowners have been encouraged to actually take the plunge and purchase a property. However, there are some who still wonder whether buying a home is the right thing to do.

It’s perfectly normal to have reservations for embarking on such a significant experience. However, the more you know about why buying a home now is a good idea, the less intimidating the process will be .

To help reinforce the positive input of your closest confidants, here are our top reasons to own your own home:

Renting Wastes Money – When you rent a property, the money you pay each month is wasted as far as you’re concerned. When you own a home, your mortgage payments pay off that home. In other words, you are actually working towards owning something rather than just paying for something that you are only using temporarily. When renting, you’re just paying someone else’s mortgage. The New Normal

With snow blanketing most of North America and Northern Europe last week, its no wonder so many international home buyers from such wintry places as Canada, Germany, the U.K. and Scandinavia are already on the ground in Southwest Florida. The great thaw in our property market is underway; and in numbers that suddenly recall much healthier times, they’re lining up early in the season—alongside domestic buyers—to take advantage of the lowest home prices in over a decade.

Confidence that now is the right time to buy in Southwest Florida is not only being borne out by monthly sales that show our market edging closer to normalcy—especially in the lower price ranges—but also by a strong resurgence in confidence that real estate with its corrected pricing is a better choice over the long haul than stocks.
